Everyone wants to have his website in the top 10 listing on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) but how to get there is more complicated. Some will choose the clean path (White Hat SEO Techniques) while others will prefer to cheat (Black Hat). Black Hat SEO uses techniques that are not approved by search engines. Both White and Black Hat SEO have a common goal; that is to improve website visibility. In the long run Black Hat can get your website banned from search engines, which is why you better stay away from it. To keep your website and business website clean, avoid those techniques below.
1 - Keyword Stuffing
Have you ever landed on a web page full of content repeating the same keywords over and over again without making any sense or those pages with big chunk of text without any paragraph, which makes it barely readable? This is the type of content you should avoid. Search Engines want your content to look natural, that’s why you should keep your users in mind when creating your content.
2 - Doorway Pages
These are standalone pages built only for the search engines and are not accessible from the website. Though you might see good results from these pages as they will be ranking well on the search engines; what will you do once Google finds out and removes all these pages from its index? All your hard work creating them will go in vain. Focus on the content of your website instead.
3 - Invisible Text
You might have noticed some websites with a lot of blank space at the bottom of the pages. Actually this might not be blank at all, try to select everything (a simple CTRL + A will do) and see what happens. You will see a whole lot of text probably with no meaning at all. In fact the text is same color as the background, doing this might get your website penalized by Google and other major search engines.
4 - Spam
This doesn’t require an explanation, we are all aware of what spam is. When it comes to websites, they are the ones with only few interesting content on them but full of ads; usually referred to as MFA (Made For Adsense) websites. These types of websites usually do not stay in top results for very long.
5 - Duplicate Content / Websites
Creating hundreds of websites or pages with the same content slightly altered in an attempt to get more traffic or better search engine rankings. This practice is a complete waste of time and will get you nowhere in the long run. Google’s goal is to give quality results to its users. If you only provide the same content again and again; your websites might end up nowhere to be found in the SERPs.
Try to stay away from the above techniques and your website will do just fine on search engines. Black Hat Techniques are not limited to those mentioned above; there are many other techniques out there that the “pirates” of the web use to trick Google.
